The third session of the Industry Interaction Programme for the academic year 2017-18 was held on the 20th January 2018 at 11 am in the M. Com. Department.
The resource person for the Programme was Mr.Amey Gokuldas Shirodker, an ex-student of Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics. He is presently employed as Recovery Head in Madgaum Urban Co-Operative Bank, Margao-Goa and has been working in the same bank for the past four and a half years. Besides, his career in the banking industry, Mr. Shirodker is an avid photographer and has converted his passion for photography into an entrepreneurship business titled ‘Khichick Photography’.
Mr. Amey described his experiences as a student and the dilemma of what would be his next step after M.Com. He also reminisced how his teachers corrected his spelling mistakes, insisted he read the newspaper daily and how these habits helped him develop the competency for competitive examinations and keet him updated in business.
He shared his experiences working in the banking sector. He began by working as a contract employee for six months in Madgaum Urban Co-Operative Bank. Mr. Shirodkar informed us that the co-operative banks in Goa mainly provide finance to help underprivileged people usually engaged in mining and allied activities. Today, most of the co-operative banks are facing a crisis with the stoppage of mining activities in Goa.
His career as a photographer began when he discovered his talent of taking pictures while on vacation with his family. Mr. Amey says that it is a challenge to balance both worlds. It is possible to carry out his profession because of the number of leaves he can avail per year.
He ended his session by advising students to aim high always be humble. This enlightening and interactive session ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Monali Naik, student of M.Com Part II.
