Fieldtrip to Lok Utsav (TYBCom)

A fieldtrip to the Lok Utsav was organized for all T.Y.B.Com students on Monday 15th January 2018.

Lok Utsav is an annual festival that presents a blend of folk artistry and handicrafts from all over India under one roof. The festival is organized by the Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Goa in collaboration with West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur, Kala Academy, Goa, Sports Authority of Goa, Corporation of the City of Panaji, South Central Zone Cultural Centre, Nagpur, Department of Art & Culture, Jharkhand and other agencies to promote folk culture and handicrafts from across India and particularly from Goa.

This year there were nearly 500 stalls exhibiting handicrafts from all over India including Bandhani, Kathputali, Lucknowi chikan work, leather bags, chappals, khadi, kotha & silk material, handmade garments, carpets, glass, clay art, furniture, wooden toys, block print, madhubani paintings, appliqué work as well as Goan crafts.

The festival also had a variety of food stalls from States such as Rajasthan and local Goan food. The major highlight of this festival was that it was polythene-free.

Most stalls owners are entrepreneurs having their own small scale units. The purpose of this trip was to inspire our students to venture into small businesses of their own. The students interacted with few stall owners. However many were unwilling to entertain the students as they were busy with customers. 100 students along with 5 teachers namely Dr. Lina Sadekar, Ms. Shilpa Mense, Dr. Shami Pai, Ms. Deepa Talwar & Ms. Pooja Shanbhag accompanied the students on the trip.
