The Department of Hindi of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics organized “Hindi Week” from 26th to 28th September 2024 in Classroom S-204, held between 12:45 pm and 1:45 pm. This three-day event was aimed at highlighting the significance of Hindi in national unity and encouraging its use in various spheres of life. The event included four competitions namely, essay writing, poster making, slogan writing, and dialogue writing, which received 37 (13 male, 12 female) enthusiastic participants from BCom, BBA, BCA and BBA(FS) programmes, showcasing their creativity and appreciation for the Hindi language.

Day 1: Essay Writing Competition (26th September 2024)

The first day featured an Essay Writing Competition with nine students participating. The competition was judged by Mrs. Supriya Kankonkar and Ms. Dikshya Naik, who evaluated the entries based on creativity, coherence, and relevance to the given topics. The winners were:

  • 1st Prize: Ruby Mahato (TY BCom, Div B)
  • 2nd Prize:Karishma Patil (FY BCom, Div B)
  • 3rd Prize:Mayuresh Parmekar (SY BCom, Div D)

 

Day 2: Poster Making and Slogan Writing Competitions (27th September 2024)

The second day featured both the Poster Making and Slogan Writing Competitions:

  • Poster Making Competition:Thirteen students participated in the competition, that was judged by Ms. Dikshya Naik and Mrs. Supriya Kankonkar. The posters creatively represented themes related to the Hindi language and its cultural significance. The winners:
  • 1st Prize:Sainaz Sayed (SY BCom, Div D)
  • 2nd Prize:Alethea Barreto (SY BBA)
  • 3rd Prize:Glace Da Souza (SY BBA) and Shriraj Kavlekar (SY BBA)

 

  • Slogan Writing Competition:Seven students took part in this competition, crafting impactful slogans that captured the spirit of Hindi and its role in society. This competition was also judged by Mrs. Supriya Kankonkar and Ms. Dikshya Naik, and the winners were:
  • 1st Prize:Anil Pradhan (SY BBA(FS), Div A)
  • 2nd Prize:Anirudh Solanki (SY BCA, Div B)
  • 3rd Prize:Mithali Raikar (FY BCom, Div B)

 

Day 3: Dialogue Writing Competition (28th September 2024) : The final day showcased the Dialogue Writing Competition, with eight participants. Judged by Mrs. Supriya Kankonkar and Ms. Dikshya Naik, the competition focused on originality, fluency, and narrative impact. The winners were:

  • 1st Prize: Anirudh Solanki (SY BCA, Div B)
  • 2nd Prize: Nasreen Khan (FY BCom, Div B)
  • 3rd Prize: Ruby Mahato (TY BCom, Div B)

The prize distribution ceremony for Hindi Week took place on 17th October 2024 at 1:00 pm. The programme began with a welcome speech by Asst. Prof. Ciana Fernandes, followed by the distribution of certificates to winners by Officiating Principal Dr. Sanjay P. Sawant Dessai, Vice Principal (Academics) Dr. Edwin Barreto, and Vice Principal (Administration) Dr. Shami Pai. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Asst. Prof. Chaya Velip.

The event was successfully organized under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Chaya Velip from the Hindi Department, who ensured smooth coordination and execution of all the competitions. The active participation and enthusiasm displayed by the students made the event a great success, achieving its goal of celebrating and promoting the Hindi language.

Expected Outcomes of the Activity: 

The Hindi Week successfully met its objectives, as students were motivated to enhance their Hindi language skills through various engaging activities. Such events can inspire students to pursue further studies in Hindi or even consider careers in fields requiring proficiency in the language.
