First Year Students’ Induction Program

On 1st July 2024, VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics conducted an Induction Program from 8.30 am to 10.30 am, in Hall 1, 5th Floor, College Central Block, for the First Year B.Com students for the academic year 2024-25.

The induction program at our esteemed institution began on an auspicious note with an invocation song performed by Ms. Dhriti Bene, a student of SY B.Com. After the invocation, the tradition of garlanding the portrait of Lord Damodar was honored. This reverent ceremony symbolized our dedication to seeking divine blessings and wisdom for the new academic year.

This was followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Principal Prof. Sanjay P. Sawant Dessai along with senior faculty members. This tradition symbolizes driving away darkness and bringing in knowledge and enlightenment. The glow of the lamp represented the education our institution seeks to provide to its students.

Prof. Sanjay P. Sawant Dessai, Officiating Principal, delivered a heartfelt welcome address, warmly greeting the First-Year students, encouraging them to embrace the journey of learning and growth that lies ahead. He highlighted the importance of academic excellence, integrity, and holistic development, urging students to make the most of the opportunities provided by the college. His words were inspiring and motivational, setting a positive tone for the new academic year.

As the program progressed, each faculty member introduced themselves, sharing their academic background, areas of expertise, and teaching philosophy, allowing students to familiarize themselves with their teachers.

Dr. Shami Pai provided an insightful introduction to the B.Com program, outlining the curriculum structure, key subjects, and various academic and extracurricular opportunities available to students. Her comprehensive overview gave students a clear understanding of what to expect in their academic pursuits.

Dr. Edwin Barreto, Vice Principal, highlighted the commerce activities planned for the year, emphasizing the importance of participation for holistic development and encouraging students to get involved. His presentation focused the value of practical experience and networking within the commerce field.

Prof. S. Bhat took the stage to brief students on examination protocols and discipline. He outlined the examination schedule, evaluation criteria, and the importance of adhering to the college’s code of conduct. His clear and concise briefing ensured that students were well-informed about the academic expectations and disciplinary standards.

Dr. Lira Gama introduced the Student Welfare Cell and discussed the various economics activities planned for the year. She emphasized the college’s commitment to student support and welfare, encouraging students to seek help whenever needed. Her presentation highlighted the resources available for student well-being and academic success.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Lina Sadekar. She expressed gratitude to all the speakers, organizers, and attendees for making the induction program a success. Her words of appreciation were heartfelt, leaving everyone with a sense of fulfillment and anticipation for the academic year ahead. The compere for the function was Ms. Swati Bhat. A total of 155 students attended the program.
