The Post Graduate Department of Commerce organized a Library Orientation Session for the students of M.Com Part-II on 25th June 2024 at 11.30am. The Resource Person for the session was Ms. Manasi D. Rege and Ms. Ravila Talaulikar. The orientation session aimed to familiarize students with the extensive resources and facilities the College library offers, ensuring they can fully utilize the available materials for their academic and research needs.
The session commenced in classroom T-302 at 11:30 am. Ms. Manasi D. Rege introduced the session, emphasizing the concept of the hybrid library, which integrates both physical and digital resources. She highlighted the library’s extensive collection, which includes over 36,500 printed books and 145 e-books. The library also subscribes to 12 local newspapers, 4 national newspapers, and 2 e-newspapers.
Ms. Manasi discussed the importance of library ethics, outlining the rules and guidelines students need to follow to maintain a respectful and productive environment. She then detailed the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) enabled services available in the library, including the e-library platform ‘Vigyankosh,’ which supports collaborative learning and provides access to a wide range of digital resources.
Students were also introduced to the use of QR codes for availing various library services, making it easier to access information quickly and efficiently. Ms. Manasi explained the availability of sample question papers and the ‘Career Zone’ notice boards, which offer valuable resources for academic and career planning.
Ms. Ravila Talaulikar led the second part of the session, showcasing the various digital facilities available for students. She demonstrated how students could access these resources through the college website or by visiting the library.
One of the key resources highlighted was Indiastat, a platform providing sector-wise data with detailed numerical values for various research purposes. Ms. Ravila illustrated its use with examples such as tourism in Goa and the crop yield during the monsoon season in Goa.
Next, she discussed Nlist, which offers access to over 6,000 e-journals and 31,000 e-books. She also introduced Magzter, a service providing a wide range of e-magazines and newspapers. Additionally, she covered the National Digital Library, which contains millions of e-books available for college students to access and use for academic and research purposes. Ms. Ravila also mentioned the Pearson e-library, with 145+ e-books accessible to each student. She highlighted the availability of renowned publications such as the Wall Street Journal and Economic Times Prime for newspaper access.
The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Sheryl Antao, a student, who expressed gratitude to the Resource Persons for their valuable insights and guidance. 34 students attended the orientation.
