The Department of Computer Science organized a workshop cum Guest lecture on Scrum Project Management using Jira on 20th March 2024 from 8:30 to 10:30am. The Resource Person for the session was Mr. Chetan Rane, Technology Lead, Isprava Pvt. Ltd and a Visiting Faculty at the Department of Computer Science. The session was for upskilling and providing a platform for the industry needs for our students in the courses, namely, Software Engineering for SYBCA and Software Engineering & Testing and Software Laboratory IV for SY B.Voc.(ST).
During the workshop, the students were introduced to Scrum Project Management using the Jira tool. Mr. Chetan Rane explained the purpose & use of the Jira tool and the different roles involved in a software development project. As it was a hands-on session, the students could create new projects, enter the tasks and manage it. Mr. Rane also explained details on how to track web elements on a website and analyse them. Furthermore, the concept of functional decomposition of a Website Homepage and identifying of elements was demonstrated.
The concept of assigning Points for tasks and allotting it to project team members according to their abilities and availability of tools was shown with an example. Mr. Chetan Rane explained the fundamental concepts of identifying and categorizing tasks and elements as Epic, Story, Tasks and sub tasks.
The session focused on Scrum Project management, the concept of Scrum ceremonies, retrospection and sprints with real project examples handled by the Resource Person. Creating a Sprint and assigning Story points to developers during a sprint was explained. Tracking of a Sprint’s progress and reporting using Charts for Project Tasks was also shown.
The Resource Person explained a live application of a company and its Jira interface to understand the use of Jira in Industry. Students interacted with the Resource Person with their queries and answers throughout the session. It was a very interactive and informative session for the students as the Jira tool can be used for their TY Projects. Furthermore, the workshop was also a part of evaluation for an Assignment in the relevant Courses.
The compere for the session was Mr. Aldrid Fernandes. Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mr. Rishabh Arolkar and the Flyer was designed by Mr. Delroy Pires, students of SYBCA. The Faculty In-charges for the session were Mr. Sumit Kumar, Ms. Annette Santimano and Ms. Sweta P. Shet Verenkar. It was a good learning experience. The session concluded at 10:45am. 87 students attended the session.
