The Department of Commerce & Management, in association with the Career Cell, organised a guest lecture cum career counselling session on the topic ‘Sowing seeds of Success’ on 29th February 2024, from 2.30 pm-3.30 pm in room no 214. The primary objective was to provide entrepreneurial insights and shed light on career opportunities in the field of agriculture and farming. The distinguished Resource Person for the session was Mr. Varad Samant, a young Agripreneur and Owner of Samant Agro Farm, Dabal-Dharbandoda, Goa.
Mr. Samant commenced the session by sharing his personal entrepreneurial journey in agriculture, detailing the challenges, milestones, and transformative experiences that shaped his success. He elaborated on the various crops, vegetables, and farm produce cultivated, emphasizing the cultivation patterns and the journey from a small trial to large-scale farming with diverse crops. He told students that he continuously implements innovation and creative ideas in the field of agriculture.
The speaker delved into various innovative practices and technologies that he implemented in his farms. This included discussions on precision farming, sustainable practices, and the integration of technology in optimizing crop yield and resource utilization. A significant portion of the session was dedicated to analysing current market trends and identifying opportunities in the agriculture sector.
Mr. Varad highlighted the profits available in this field, emphasizing that a considerable portion of his farm produce is procured by the Goa Horticulture Department and sold through individual horticulture kiosks across the state. The lecture by Mr. Varad Samant provided students with valuable knowledge, innovative ideas, and motivation to explore entrepreneurial opportunities in the agricultural sector. 66 students attended the session. The faculty in charge for planning and organising the session were Assistant Professor Ms. Namrata Ugvekar, Ms. Kalpana Parab, Ms. Prashanti Bhamaikar and Ms. Pooja Shanbhag from B. Com Programme.
