The Department of Computer Science, in collaboration with the Career Cell, conducted a workshop titled “EmpowerED: Elevating English Soft Skills” for FYBCA students from 20th to 24th, February 2024. The workshop was meticulously organized to enhance the English language proficiency of the students, with Ms. Zakiya Tahir, Assistant Professor in English, as the Resource Person. The workshop comprised of four sessions, to address different aspects of English language development.
Session 1, titled ‘Importance of LRWS Skills,’ took place on 20th February from 8:00 to 9:00 pm, focusing on the essential components of LRWS (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) skills and their significance. Participants engaged in various activities aimed at improving these skills, including comprehension exercises to enhance reading abilities, role-playing activities to practice speaking and communication, and strategies for effective reading and listening comprehension.
Session 2, dedicated to ‘Vocabulary Building & Grammar Exercises,’ took place on 21st February from 9:00 to 10:00 pm. Participants engaged in grammar exercises with practical applications, aiming to reinforce grammatical rules and structures. The session focused on identifying and rectifying common grammatical errors to enhance communication skills. Through these activities, participants had the opportunity to strengthen their grasp of vocabulary and grammar, ultimately improving their language proficiency.
On 21st February, from 10:30 to 11:30 pm, Session 3 focused on ‘Writing Skills and Critical Thinking.’ The session included creative writing exercises to stimulate imaginative expression among participants. Additionally, students were guided through essay writing and critical analysis to refine their writing abilities and enhance critical thinking skills.
Session 4, titled ‘Business English Enhancement, was held on 22nd February from 9:00 to 10:00 pm, with a focus on improving formal communication skills applicable to professional contexts. The session introduced business language, vocabulary, and terminology relevant to various industries. Participants engaged in practice exercises aimed at refining formal expressions and navigating simulated business scenarios.
41 students enthusiastically participated in these sessions, benefiting from the guidance provided by Ms. Zakiya Tahir. The workshop not only aimed at elevating English soft skills but also aimed at empowering students with essential communication abilities crucial for their academic and professional growth.
