Session on National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange

The Department of Commerce & Management in collaboration with the Department of Management Studies conducted a session on the “National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange” on 16th of February, 2024, aimed to enlighten students on the intricacies of commodity trading, derivatives market, and the role of SEBI in regulating these financial instruments. Mr. Sandesh Gaonkar, Assistant Professor in Commerce & Management, and Miss Delisha Rebello, Assistant Professor in the Department of Management Studies, were the Coordinators. Mansha Kerkar student of SY BBA(FS) was the compere.

Mr. Pratyush Bhaskar, SEBI Smart Trainer, Mumbai  began the session by providing a comprehensive overview of commodity markets, elucidating the types of commodities traded, and the significance of these markets in the global economy.The resource person delved into the complexities of derivatives trading, explaining the purpose, types, and functioning of derivative instruments. Practical examples were shared to enhance understanding.

Mr. Bhaskar shed light on the regulatory framework administered by SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) to ensure the fair and transparent functioning of commodity and derivative markets. He emphasized the importance of compliance and ethical trading practices.

A lively and engaging question-and-answer session followed the main presentation. Students actively participated, seeking clarification on various topics related to commodity and derivatives trading. Miss Fenisa Dias SY BBA FS proposed the Vote of Thanks. 85 students attended the session.
