57th A.D. Shroff Memorial Elocution Competition

The Department of Economics and Banking organized the 57th AD Shroff Memorial Elocution Competition on 16th October 2023, from 12.15 pm to 1.15 pm in the smart classroom. The Forum of Free Enterprise encourages this annual elocution competition and also sponsors the cash prizes and certificates for the same.

Ms. Cidel Rodrigues, a student from SY B.Com, served as the compere on the occasion and warmly welcomed the audience. She provided a brief introduction to the competition and introduced the esteemed judges for the event. The Principal, Prof. Prita D. Mallya, then addressed the gathering. She emphasized the significance of elocution competitions and underscored the role played by the Forum of Free Enterprise. Prof. Mallya encouraged the audience to explore more about the Forum’s activities. Six students from the B.Com and M.Com programmes enthusiastically participated and shared their perspectives on the topics provided by the Forum of Free Enterprise.

The topics for the elocution competition included:

  • Is the Indian Rupee ready to emerge as a Global Reserve Currency, and what steps should the government take to achieve this goal?
  • Is the Indian Economy on track to becoming a $5 trillion economy by 2025?
  • Is unemployability a bigger problem than unemployment? recent steps to Skill India.

A panel of three judges from the College namely Dr. Rodney Silva, Associate Professor in Commerce, Mr. Sandesh Gaonkar, Assistant Professor in Commerce and Mr. Ainsley Bernard, Assistant Professor in Commerce judged the competition based on content, presentation and elocution skills.

Assistant Professor Ms. Lizette D’Costa, declared the results which were as follows:

1st Prize:  Ms. Brionna Noronha, TY B.Com  C (Certificate and a Cash Prize of Rs 2500/-)

2nd Prize: Ms. Ruby Mahato -.SY B.Com D,  (Certificate and a Cash Prize of Rs 1500/-)

3rd Prize:  Mr. Dalal Ambar Abhay M.Com I (Certificate and a Cash Prize of Rs 1000/-)

4th Prize: Ms. Shreya Naik FY B.Com C (Certificate)

5th Prize: Ms. Priyanka Mapsekar FY B.Com D (Certificate)

Dr. Lira Menezes Gama proposed the Vote of Thanks. Assistant Professor Ms. Saruka Kalgutkar was the overall incharge of the competition.
