The Cultural Council of the College organised ‘Ghumat Dhyaas’: an Intercollegiate Ghumat Aarti Competition on 30th September 2023. This event brought together talented musicians from various colleges to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Goa. 83 participants across 8 colleges of Goa participated in this event.
The competition commenced with a gracious dance performance by the College students followed by the traditional lamp lighting ceremony. The Principal of the College, Prof. Prita D. Mallya, welcomed the gathering and briefed the audience on the importance of such events to preserve our cultural heritage. The judges for the event were Mr. Sahil Naik and Mr. Shubham Naik, renowned experts in traditional Goan music. Mr. Shubham Naik is also the alumnus of the College. The Principal and the Vice Principal then revealed the winners trophies.
The competition then began with the 8 competing teams, adorned in colorful attire, showcasing their musical prowess through the soul-stirring beats of the Ghumat – a traditional Goan percussion instrument. Each team’s performance was a testament to the cultural diversity and artistic brilliance of our state.
After intense competition and meticulous judging, the winners were announced. The result was as follows:
- 1st Place (Trophy and Cash prize of Rs 5000/-) : Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda
- 2nd Place (Trophy and Cash prize of Rs 3000/ sponsored by Shekhar Bandekar): Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre (DMC), Assagao,
- 3rd Place (Trophy and cash prize of Rs 2000/- sponsored by Shekhar Bandekar): Goa College of Music.
Individual cash prizes(Rs 1000/- each) were as follows:
- Best Singer (sponsored by Nalini Caterers): Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre (DMC), Assagao
- Best Shamel Player(sponsored by Anandu Desai): Goa College of Engineering, Verna
- Best Ghumat vadak (sponsored by Devansh Shirodkar): PES College, Ponda
- Best Kasale player (sponsored by Alumni Nitish Dukle): S S Dempo College, Cujira
- Best Gajar (sponsored by Alumni Nitish Dukle): Govt. College, Khandola
