Journey through the Mic: Challenges and Triumphs of an RJ

The Department of Computer Science in collaboration with the Alumni Engagement cell organised an enlightening session titled “Journey through the Mic: Challenges and Triumphs of an RJ” on 11th September, 2023 from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm. The Resource Person for the session was Dr. Shakuntala Bharne an esteemed RJ from All India Radio. The session aimed to provide students with a deeper understanding of the art of anchoring on air.

The session was compered by Anushree Sharma a student from FY BCA. Anirudh Solanki from FY BCA introduced the Resource Person Dr. Shakuntala Bharne who is an accomplished alumna of our College, a renowned Indian vocalist, writer, poet, and a senior announcer at Akashwani, Panjim, having over 30 years of experience. She is also a dedicated writer and a fervent advocate for the Konkani language.

Dr. Shakuntala Bharne commenced the session by reminiscing about her early experiences as a budding RJ. She shared anecdotes and stories that shed light on her initial forays into the world of radio. She highlighted the intricacies of on-air anchoring, from script handling to live broadcasts, and the strategies she employed to overcome obstacles. The importance of connecting with the audience was a central theme throughout the session. Dr. Bharne emphasized the art of communication and building a rapport with listeners, sharing practical tips for creating a meaningful connection. In a rapidly evolving media landscape, Dr. Bharne discussed the significance of adapting to change. She explored how the radio industry has transformed over the years and the skills required to stay relevant.

Dr. Shakuntala Bharne concluded her presentation with valuable advice for aspiring RJs, offering guidance on honing their skills, building a strong foundation, and staying committed to their passion. The session concluded with a dedicated Q&A session which allowed students to seek clarification, gain further insights, and engage in meaningful discussions.

The session reached its end with student Esha Tapa from FY BCA delivering the Vote of Thanks. 100 students and 5 faculty members attended the session.
