The Department of Library and Information Science conducted a comprehensive Library Orientation session for all First Year students from 26th June to 7th July 2023. A total of 301 students were oriented across all programmes. This session aimed to familiarize the students with various library services and e-resources. During the orientation, students were introduced to the library and its basic services. They were informed about the Library’s working hours and the different sections it comprises. Detailed information was provided about the vast collection of books and resources available in the library, including periodicals, magazines, and newspapers that are regularly subscribed to. In addition to the physical resources, students were also made aware of the range of Library services and facilities offered. This included topics such as borrowing rights, overdue charges (library fines), book location and retrieval methods, and the use of the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). The orientation covered essential Library rules and guidelines, as well as the various ICT-enabled services available, such as utilizing QR codes for accessing library services.
Furthermore, students were educated about accessing electronic resources through the Library. Once registered with the Library, students gained open access to a variety of e-resources such as Indiastat, N-LIST, and NDLI. These resources encompassed e-books, e-journals, e-papers, and other materials that could greatly support their studies, research, and references. Students were instructed on how to log in using their user IDs and passwords to fully utilize these digital resources.
Students were encouraged to actively participate in Library activities and maximize the utilization of the rich resources available. They were also advised to visit the College website to explore additional resource facilities. Specifically, they were directed to the library section on the College website to gain a deeper understanding of the ICT-based services explained during the orientation.
