National Seminar 2015

The two-day National Conference took of with the inaugural function on 30th January 2015. The Chief Guest and Keynote speaker for the Inaugural function , Prof. Y. V. Reddy, Dean, Faculty of Commerce, Goa University, gave an overview of the Business Environment in India. He brought to light the major challenges faced by The Corporate Sector and the remedial measures which need to be initiated to overcome these challenges.

National1The Inaugural function was followed by the 1st Technical Session. It was based on the theme:- “Corporate Governance Issues in India”. The session was chaired by Dr. Purva Hegde Dessai, Head, Department of Management Studies. In total, 3 papers were presented in this session. The papers were presented by:-
1. Mr. P. Sri Ram/ Ms. Puja Kerkar
2. Mr. P. Sri Ram/ Ms PoojaKumari
3. Ms. Sanjana Chavan

The papers presented in this session highlighted the need for effective/good Corporate Governance disclosure and how the quality of Corporate Governance disclosure can go a long way in affecting the financial performance and FII Inflows. The first session concluded with a presentation by Dr(Mrs.) Purva Hegde Dessai on the Session theme.
National2The Second Technical Session commenced post lunch. The session was on “CSR Practices in India”. The chairperson for this session was Mr. Blaise Costabir, MD, GMI Zarhak Modern Pvt Ltd. Goa. 7 papers were presented in this session. The paper presenters were:-

3. Mr Prakash B Masurkar
4. Mrs Gayatri Behare
5. Dr Juao C. Costa
6. Ms. Savia Mendes/ Prof B. Ramesh

The papers presented in this session touched upon the changing scenario of CSR in India and the implications of the new Companies Act, 2013 and how making CSR mandatory can boost the economic growth of the nation and also gave an insight to the preparedness of the corporates in following the revised CSR norms.

National3The First Session on Day 2 of the National Conference was on “New Companies Act, 2013” and implications on corporates. The session chairperson was CA Swatee Shere Rane. The paper presenters in this session were:-

2. Mr Harjot Singh, Mr Abhishek Sahu, Mr Siddesh K Pai
3. Mr R. G. Sawant

The authors in this session threw light on the implications of New Companies Act, 2013 on the Indian Economy and also how the implementation of the Act has given a new dimension to CSR practices. Then session can also emphasise on how FDI can be a powerful catalyst for the growth of Indian Economy.
The Final Session of the Conference was on “Business Ethics: The Need of the Hour”. Mr Binayak Datta, Ex- CFO ,VPF, Zuari Agro Chemicals Ltd. was the chairperson for this session.

were the paper presenters for this session. The papers presented in this session threw light on the ethical issues that need to be addressed in the corporate world. Whether ethical code for advertising are looked into by corporates. And the ethical perceptions and sensitivities of accounting professionals and their ethical dilemmas in an emerging economy like ours. Mr. Binayak Datta gave his valuable inputs.National4
The Technical Sessions were followed by a Panel Discussion. The Panel Discussion was based on “Ethical Issues in the Corporate World.” The Panelists for this discussion were:-

3. CA Vibhor Keny
The Moderator for the Panel Discussion was Mr. Binayak Datta.

National6Mr. Binayak Datta was also the Chief Guest for the valedictory Function. In his address he spoke about the changes in the corporate sector and the implementation of the new companies act. The function concluded with participants feedback and distribution of certificates to participants.
