Guest Lecture on Economics of Coastal Damage

The Department of Economics and Banking organized a guest lecture on 20th October 2022 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. 99 Second Year B.Com students of Economics of Resources attended the session. The compere for the event was Ms. Tanisha Naik, a student of SY B.Com. The Resource Person for the session was Dr. Pranoy Baidya, Ecologist and Scientific Consultant for CRZ Goa. Ms. Amrutha Pujari, a student from SY B.Com introduced the Resource Person for the session.

Dr. Pranoy Baidya gave a detailed explanation about types of resources and their usage by different living organisms. He also highlighted the impact of climate change and rising temperature due to human activities as the years pass. Dr. Baidya elaborated on the consequences of increasing population in the form of extreme heat and floods. He also focused on the changes that have taken place in the Goan environment and the coastline of Goa in particular. He explained about environmental compensation for coastal damage recovery.

The session concluded with Dr. Baidya urging each one to use their knowledge and take one step at a time for the improvement of society. Ms. Nicolla Mascarenhas proposed the Vote of Thanks. Mr. Sanjay Velip and Ms. Stesa Pereira were the faculty members who coordinated the session.
