The Department of Management and Vasundhara (Green Club) under the initiative of ‘Goenche Saim-Connecting to Nature’ organized a snake awareness session for the students of the College on 12th October 2022 in hall number 2 of the central block. The objective of the session was to create awareness and to clear the misconceptions about snakes.
A total of 179 students of BCA, BBA(FS), B.Com, M.Com and B.Voc (ST) programmes participated in the snake awareness session. The session commenced with the Vice-Principal Dr. Edwin Barreto addressing the gathering and emphasizing on how myths regarding the mysterious snakes needed to be debunked. The Resource Person for the session was Mr. Charan Desai, a certified animal communicator, wildlife rescue and research. He is also a member of Animal Rescue Squad of Goa as well as the President of SAWE (Study and Awareness of Wildlife and Environment). The Resource Person provided a detailed explanation of different types of snakes found in Goa, how they can be identified and their role in our ecosystem. Mr. Charan Desai was also accompanied and assisted for the live demonstration of snakes by three other members of SAWE and the Animal Rescue Squad, Goa. The session concluded with first aid tips in case of snake bites as well as precautionary measures to avoid such situations. The students actively interacted and provided their feedback about the session.
The compere for the session was Ms. Urvashi Pagi, from FY B.Com. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms. Pavitra Gadkar from FYBBA(FS). The faculty in-charge of the session was Asst. Prof. Ms. Apurva Gauns Desai.
