Industrial visit to CIBA, Verna and Dharohar, Panaji

The P.G. Department of Commerce (M.Com) organized an Industrial visit to CIBA, Verna and Dharohar, Panaji on 9th Sept 2022. The trip was organized for the students of M.Com Part I, M.Com Part II and PGDFT to give them practical insights into various areas of commerce and industry. A total of 65 students visited CIBA, Verna and Dharohar, Panaji. The students were accompanied by Asst. Prof. Seema Dharani, Asst. Prof. Twinkle Fernandes, Asst. Prof. Valencia Baptista and Asst. Prof. Myron Pereira.

The students along with the faculty members reached CIBA, Verna at 10:00 a.m. Thereafter, the group was escorted to the conference room for a small presentation on CIBA – Centre for Incubation and Business Acceleration which was given by the Incubation Manager, Mr. Raj Naik. Mr. Naik began the session with the brief history of CIBA. He mentioned that CIBA being a unit of angel charities, has supported 140+ startups with legal compliance, product consultancy, modern office spaces, mentoring, IPR, business development, business plans, networking opportunities, rapid prototyping, seed funding and fund raising. He also highlighted various facilities provided for start-ups such as Rapid Prototyping Lab, Food processing Lab and Fab Lab. The session was very interactive which allowed students to pose their questions and clear their doubts on various issues related to start-ups.

Thereafter, the students were taken on a tour to the Food Lab within the institution by Mr. Sunil Bhatt, Manager in Skill Development, where he showed them food processing machines &   containers. At the 3D Printing Lab, Mr. Varadh Morajkar, Social Media Manager of Infinite 3D gave a session on 3D printing and showed 3D articles made of PV, ABs, Nylon and raisin. He also enlightened the students about laser cutting, vacuum forming and 3D designing. The visit to CIBA ended at around 12.15 p.m.

The next destination of the industrial visit was Dharohar: National Museum of Customs and GST, Panaji. The group reached Dharohar at around 12.45 p.m. The curator, Ms. Anusha Sawant and assistant curator, Ms. Anjali Mapari welcomed the students and took them on a museum tour. They both beautifully explained the concepts behind the artifacts, ornaments and medals received by Indian Custom Department. They also unveiled various tales of seize and tricks used by the smugglers back then to smuggle various arts, diamonds, metals, gold bars, etc. They also highlighted about the British indirect taxes, service tax and GST. The museum had various original display as well as replicas of many seized items such as statues, coins, ornaments, gold articles etc. The museum also had life size statues of PM Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee launching GST in India. The visit to Dharohar concluded at 2.15 p.m. and the students with the faculty members proceeded for lunch.

Post lunch, the group headed to the College and reached College campus at around 5.00 p.m. The industrial visit was very fruitful and educative as the students got various insights of incubation, start-ups and taxes.
