Deeksharambh – Student Induction & Orientation Programme 2022-23

Deeksharambh 2022-23 was conducted for the students of FY B.Com, BBA(FS) , BBA, BCA & B.Voc(ST). The purpose of the programme was to introduce all the cells & committees and their activities for the benefit of students. The convenor of all the cells & Committees explained in detail the role of each cell & committee, the rules and regulations, functions and activities of all the cells & committees. The convenors also informed students the procedure to be followed by them for addressing their issues related to any difficulties faced by them on college campus.

 

 

Students’ And Cultural Council Orientation Programme

The Students’ and Cultural Council of the College conducted an “Orientation Programme” for First Year Students of all Programmes of SDCCE between 26th July 2022 to 31st July 2022. A total of 200 students attended the programme.

The orientation was done by visiting each class of first year students by Dr. Maithili Naik, Convenor, Students’ Council and Ms. Preksha Chopdekar, Convenor, Cultural council.

The purpose of the programme was to make students aware about the Council structure of the College. The convenors explained in brief the various in house and inter collegiate activities organized by the Council, role of student representatives towards the Council and the College.

 

Canteen Orientation Programme

The Canteen committee conducted an Orientation Programme for the First Year Students of all Programmes of SDCCE between 31st July 2022 to 05th August 2022. A Total of 100 students attended the Programme.

The orientation was done by visiting each class of first year students by Ms. Preksha Chopdekar, In-charge Canteen Committee and Mr. Ajinkya Kutdarkar.

The purpose of the programme was to make students aware about the College canteen, the food availability, prices etc. The students were also informed that incase of any problem pertaining to canteen has to be reported to the canteen committee members.

 

NCC Army

The NCC Army Wing of the College conducted NCC (Army) orientation programme as a part of Deeksharambh for B. Com students on 06th August 2022.

Lt. Sandesh Gaonkar informed the students about the NCC activities conducted in the College and also shared some marvelous achievements of the senior NCC cadets. He further added on the importance of joining NCC and briefed the aims, motto and history of NCC.

It was a very useful session for those students who wanted to join NCC and build a career in Defence services. A total of 100 students attended the session.

 

Library Orientation

The Department of Library and Information Science has conducted Library Orientation for all the first year students of B.Com, BBA(FS), BBA(Gen), BCA, B.Voc(ST), and M.Com Programmes 6th Aug 2022 to 6th Oct 2022. During the Library orientation, students were briefed on Library Resources, working hours, sections of the Library, Library services and facilities, books borrowing rights, Overdue charges-Library fines, How to locate and get the Library books, the use of OPAC, Renewal of books, Library Rules, ICT enabled Library services, the use of QR codes to avail library services, How to access sample Question papers, Career Zone , Syllabus, Subject Gateways, Institutional Repository, Knowledge portal and Vigyankosh.

The Librarian also highlighted books to read, New Arrivals and Shodhgyan: Current Content services.

Collections of the Library such as Reference, Biographies, Novels, Positive thinking and hobbies were briefed with examples. Queries were answered by the Librarian. E-resources such as N-List, NDLI and Indiastat were also briefed to students. A total of 532 students benefited from the orientation.

 

FY Certificate Course and Value Education Cell Orientation Programme

The FY Certificate Course and Value Education Cell In-Charge Asst. Professor Marjina Shaikh conducted an “Orientation Programme” for First Year Students of all FY B.Com, FY BBA and FY BBA(FS) in Hall no.1 Central Block, on 8th August 2022, from 9:00 am onwards.

The purpose of the programme was to make students aware about the FY Certificate Course and the Value Education Cell of the College. The Convenor of both the Committees informed the students about the various activities conducted under the above-mentioned cells. The students were briefed about the broad areas of 21st Century Life Skills Course and the various days of international and National importance to be commemorated under the Value Education cell. The students were also informed about the 80% attendance requirement for the Certificate Course.

The Orientation Programme was attended by 340 students.

 

NCC Navy Orientation Programme

The NCC Naval wing of the College conducted a “NCC Navy Orientation Programme” for First Year Students of all Programmes of SDCCE on 8thAugust 2022, from 9.00-10.00 am. A Total of 200 students attended the Programme.

The purpose of the programme was to make students aware about the NCC Navy of the College and its planned activities. Ms. Pretty Pereira CTO of NCC Navy explained the detailed structure of NCC Navy, parades, various level of camps, marks allotment and the importance of B & C certificate. Doubts raised by the students were also cleared.

 

MOOCS Cell Orientation Programme

The MOOCS Cell of the College conducted an orientation session as a part of the Deeksharambh initiative, for the First-Year students of the College, on 08th and 9th August 2022 from 09:00 am onwards. Mr. Gajanan Haldankar, Convenor, MOOCs cell of the College explained the students in detail about the MOOCs cell. He highlighted the importance of MOOCs in today’s changing scenario. He informed the students about the different online MOOCs portals like Coursera, Udemy, Great learning etc available for completing online certificate courses. He also explained the students about benefits of completing online MOOCs courses and how this certificate will help them as a student. Orientation was conducted for 190 students.

 

Career Cell Orientation Programme

The Career Cell conducted an Orientation Programme for First Year Students of all Programmes of SDCCE on 8th August, 9th August and 12th August 2022. Ms. Sushrusha Naik Khandekar, Convenor of Career Cell welcomed the gathering.

The purpose of the programme was to make the students aware about the activities planned by Career Cell of the College. Ms. Sushrusha Naik Khandekar informed the students about the various sessions to be conducted for career counselling and eminent speakers that will be invited as Resource persons for these sessions. She informed the students about the various career options available. She also cleared all the doubts raised by the students.

 

Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) Orientation Programme

The Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) club of the College conducted an Orientation Programme for the First Year Students of all Programmes of SDCCE on 9th August 2022, from 9.00-10.00 am. A total of 250 students attended the Programme.

The purpose of the programme was to make students aware about the EBSB club of the College. Ms. Pretty Pereira, Assistant Professor in Economics & Banking informed the students about the various activities planned by the Club and asked the students to participate actively in all the activities.

 

Commerce Club Orientation Programme

The Commerce Club of the College conducted an ‘Orientation Programme’ for First Year students of all Programmes of SDCCE in Room No 212, on 9th August 2022, from 9:15 am onwards. 100 students attended the session.

Ms. Sheryl Sanches, Assistant Professor in Commerce and Convenor of the Commerce Club, welcomed the gathering and addressed the students.

The purpose of the programme was to make students aware about the Commerce Club of the College. Asst. Prof. Sheryl Sanches stated the objective of the Commerce Club and explained the detailed structure of the activities conducted by the Commerce Club such as the bazaar Day, mock trading, poster designing, logo designing, research paper competition etc. She also cleared all the doubts raised by the students. The programme ended with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Asst. Prof. Sheryl Sanches.

 

Placement Cell Orientation Programme

The Placement Cell of the College conducted an ‘Orientation Programme’ for First Year students of all Programmes of SDCCE in Room No 212, on 9th August 2022, from 12:15 pm onwards. 100 students attended the session.

Dr. Edwin Barreto, Associate Professor in Commerce and Convenor of the Placement Cell, welcomed the gathering and addressed the students.

The purpose of the programme was to make students aware about the Placement Cell of the College. Dr. Edwin Barreto explained the detailed structure of the activities conducted by the Placement Cell such as the soft skills training, mock interviews, placement fair etc. He also cleared all the doubts raised by the students. Programme ended with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Sheryl Sanches, Assistant Professor in Commerce and member of the Placement Cell.

 

Institution Innovation Council Cell Orientation Programme

The IIC Cell of the College conducted an ‘Orientation Programme’ for First Year students of all Programmes of SDCCE in Room No 212, on 9th August 2022, from 12:15 pm onwards. 100 students attended the session.

Dr. Edwin Barreto, Associate Professor in Commerce and Convenor of the IIC Cell, welcomed the gathering and addressed the students.

The purpose of the programme was to make students aware about the IIC Cell of the College. Dr. Edwin Barreto explained the detailed structure of the activities conducted by the IIC Cell. He also cleared all the doubts raised by the students.

 

Examination Committee Orientation

The Examination Committee of the College conducted Examination orientation as a part of Deeksharambh for B.Com students on 09th August 2022 from 12.30 pm to 1.00 pm.

 

The aim was to familiarize the students with the Institution’s regulations and Academic standards. Students were being addressed by Dr. Lira Gama, Mr. Sandesh Gaonkar and Ainsley Bernard. They were informed about the examination protocols, impact of not answering ISA and submission of assignments on or before deadline, rules during examination, checking notification on college websites on daily basis etc.

 

Anti-Ragging Squad(ARS) Orientation Programme

The Anti-Ragging Squad conducted an orientation programme for First Year Students of all Programmes of SDCCE on 9th and 13th August 2022.  Mr. Ainsley Bernard- Member of the cell addressed the students of FY B.Com and Dr. Sheetal Arondekar-Member of the cell briefed the FY BBA/FY BBA(FS)/FY BCA/FY B.Voc students.

The purpose of the programme was to make students aware about the Anti-ragging Act and the redressal procedure. The students were warned about the repercussions of ragging acts in and around the College premises.  Around 287 students attended the session.

 

Students Welfare Cell Orientation Programme

The Students Welfare cell of the College conducted Orientation Programme of Student Welfare Cell for the newly admitted batch of First Year Students of B.Com, BCA/B.Voc (ST), BBA/ BBA (FS) Programmes on 9th & 13th August 2022 from 9.00 am – 10.00 am. 55 students attended the programme.

The objective of the orientation programme was to make students aware about the various activities organized and undertaken by the Students Welfare Cell for the holistic growth and development of the students. The Cell mainly works for the cause of students’ welfare and oversees various development activities conducted at the College level for students. The cell aims at nurturing the mental, physical and cultural growth of the students so as to improve their overall personality, which will help in imbibing the social sense and responsibility amongst the students.

Dr. Shami Pai, HoD of Commerce & Management and Convenor of Students Welfare Cell briefed students on some of the major initiatives undertaken by the cell such as merit coaching for advanced learners, remedial classes for slow learners and mentoring sessions for the students to help them perform well and excel in Academics and co-curricular activities. She also stressed on the importance of attending lectures regularly and urged students to involve and participate in various activities and events organized by the College which will help them in developing their personality and make them industry ready. Dr. Shami also encouraged and motivated students to adopt and practice collaborative and peer-to-peer learning to assist and help slow learners to cope up with studies.

Ms. Rajlaxmi Nair, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and member of Students Welfare Cell explained about the availability of various scholarship schemes offered by the State and Central Government. She further informed that the College also provides additional scholarships and students should take maximum benefit of it. She also motivated the students to have a positive attitude, acquire new knowledge and skills in order to attain a bright future.  Overall, it was a very informative session for the newly admitted batch of first year students of all programmes.

 

Grievance Redressal Cell(GRC) Orientation Programme

The Grievance Redressal Cell as a part of Deeksharambh activity conducted an orientation programme for First Year Students of all Programmes of SDCCE on 9th and 13th August 2022. Ainsley Bernard-member of the cell addressed the students of FY B.Com and Dr. Sheetal Arondekar – Convenor of the Cell briefed the FY BBA/FY BBA(FS)/FY BCA/FY B.Voc students. The purpose of the programme was to make students aware about the Acts/grievance that can be addressed by the Cell and the redressal procedure for the same.   Around 287 students attended the session.

 

Women’s Cell & ICC Orientation Programme

The Women’s Cell & ICC conducted an orientation programme for First Year Students of all Programmes of SDCCE on 9th and 13th August 2022.  Dr. Anjali Sajilal, Convenor of the cell conducted this orientation. The purpose of the programme was to make students aware about the Women’s cell and its activities. She also explained the role of Internal Compliant Committee (ICC) as per the guidelines of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. The Convenor informed students to read the procedure displayed on the board in the College campus.   Around 287 students attended the session.

 

OBC Cell & Minority Cell Orientation Programme

The OBC and Minority Cell of the College conducted an Orientation Programme for the First Year Students of all Programmes of SDCCE in hall 1 on 13th August 2022, from 11:30 am onwards. A Total of 200 students attended the Programme.

The purpose of the programme was to make students aware about the various scholarships available to OBC and Minority students of the College. Ms. Pretty Pereira informed about the scholarships available and also urged the students to visit the College website regularly as the details will be uploaded on the website.

 

E-Cell & Incubation Centre Orientation Programme

The E-Cell and Incubation Centre conducted an “Orientation Programme” for First Year Students of all Programmes in Smart Classroom on 13th August 2022 from 11:30 a.m.

The objective of the session was to make students aware about the functioning of E-Cell and Incubation Centre. Students were informed about the efforts taken to bridge the gap between the industry and the education where in the platform is provided to the students to show case their talents in the area of an entrepreneurial field.  Ms. Nishigandha Naik Gaonkar informed about the activities i.e., boot camps, Guest lectures and Industrial Visits which will be organised by the Cell and urged all to actively participate in order to boost the entrepreneurial skills among the students.

 

Techtrendz Orientation for Students of Computer Science Department’

The Techtrendz club of the Computer Science Department conducted an orientation session for the First-year students of BCA & B.Voc.(ST) Programme on 19th and 23rd August 2022 respectively. A total of 98 students attended the same.

The session was taken by Ms. Rajlaxmi S. Nair, Faculty Incharge of the TechTrendz Club. She informed the students about the four broad areas identified in the club, namely Programming, Multimedia, Future Skills and Application Development. The students were advised to register in one of the identified areas. She highlighted the importance of the Department’s Technology Club- TechTrendz, which provides them with a platform to organize and participate in the various competitions held within the club.
