‘Orientation Program for students of M.Com Part I’

The P. G. Department of Commerce (M. Com) organized an Orientation Programme for the students of M. Com Part-I on 22nd August 2022 in order to acquaint students with the M.Com Programme Structure, Ordinance OA-35 (Goa University), campus facilities and academic, curricular, co-curricular activities organized for the overall development of the students. A total of 48 students from M. Com Part II attended the orientation.

Ms. Seema Dharani, Asst. Professor in Commerce and Coordinator of M.Com Programme welcomed the students and introduced the other faculty members of the Department i.e., Ms. Valencia Baptista, Ms. Twinkle Fernandes and Mr. Myron Pereira. She commenced the session by briefing the students about the features of the M.Com programme. She also stressed on importance of research in post-graduation, incorporation of guest lectures and Industry interaction programmes into the M.Com programme. She also enlightened the students about the various campus facilities as well as activities that are conducted in the department such as Debate Club, Gurukul, Annual Tour, Industrial Visits, Add -On Courses, Research Workshops and Seminars and also encouraged the students to participate in the inter-collegiate events, intra and inter-departmental events.

Next, Ms. Valencia Baptista, Asst. Professor in Commerce briefed the students about credit systems, structure of the programme and summer training. She gave an overview of the courses offered in Semester-I of M.Com programme, credits distribution for the semester as well as for the two years of the programme. She mentioned that all the post graduate programmes offered in Goa University and affiliated colleges are governed by Ordinance OA-35. With respect to the Summer Training, she said that every student has to complete a four weeks internship in commercial and industrial organizations at the end of Semester II to become eligible for admission to second year M.Com course. She also informed the students about the requirements of completion of internship i.e. submission of hard copy of the report and training certificate and presentation.

Thereafter, Ms. Twinkle Fernandes, Asst. Professor in Commerce explained the conduct of examination (ISAs and SEA), the mode of assessment and evaluation pattern followed for the M.Com students. She explained the distribution of compulsory and optional courses, in M.Com Part I and M.Com Part II. She also informed the students the dates of tests, assignments and semester end exams. She further briefed the students on the importance of dissertation and encouraged the students to frequently visit the College library and read business journals and newspapers to enrich their existing knowledge.

The Programme helped the students in getting clarity about the various aspects of M.Com programme, Academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and Campus facilities.
