“From Independence to Liberation: A Long Wait”

VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics in association with the Directorate of Higher Education, Govt. of Goa conducted a Session on “From Independence to Liberation: A Long wait” on 13thAugust 2022 at 12.15p.m. as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The Resource Person for the session was Ms. Susheela Sawant Mendes, Senior faculty from the Department of History, Government College of Arts, Commerce & Science, Quepem. A total of 30 students and 44 faculties attended the session.

The Session began with a welcome address by the Principal Dr. Prita D. Mallya. Dr Susheela in her presentation informed the audience about the history of Goa. She gave deep insights about the period from Independence to Freedom in Goa. She meticulously described the three phases wherein the Goan people were in a dilemma whether Goa will be a part of India or Portugal or will be an independent country. She also explained about Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s non- violent approach to resolve disputes.

The session ended with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr Lina Sadekar. The Session was coordinated by Dr. Rodney D’Silva.
