Annual Awards Day 2021-22

Vidya Vikas Mandal’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics organized Annual Awards Day on Thursday, 30th June 2022. Mr. Michael D’Souza, IAS, Director, Vigilance with additional charge as Director, training (GIPARD) was the Chief Guest of the function. CA. U. N. Bene, Chairman Governing Council, CA. Sheela Gaunekar, former President of Vidya Vikas Mandal graced the occasion.

Programme commenced with a Welcome Address delivered by Principal, Prof. Prita D. Mallya. General secretary of Student’s Council Mr. Gaurish Bhatikar, General secretary of Cultural Council Mr. Jackson Rodrigues and General secretary of Sports Council Mr. Cresjowell Pereira presented the reports of the respective student bodies. Principal Prof. Prita D. Mallya presented the Principal’s Report for the academic year 2021-22.

Dr. Lira M Gama gave a presentation on the philanthropic activity the Joy of Giving undertaken by Students’ Council under the leadership the Council Convenor, Dr. Lira M Gama.  In her presentation Dr. Gama briefed the audience about the conduct of this activity and also stated the sizeable amount collected in the process. The amount collected was used towards the welfare of two social organizations:  Dr Alfredo Antao Home for the Aged, Cotta – Chandor and Lokvishwas Prathisthan’s Special School – Canacona. Following items were donated to these organizations, respectively:

  1. Three steel racks worth₹ 16, 500
  2. One cupboard with safety locker, 4kgs fire extinguisher and a glue gun with refill sticks worth ₹ 14, 777

These items were handed over to the in charges of the organizations at the hands of the dignitaries. This activity gained praises by the Chief Guest.

This was followed by the introduction of the Chief Guest by Dr. Shami R. Pai. Subsequently Chief Guest Mr. Michael D’Souza addressed the gathering. In his speech, he praised the founder members CA Sheela Gaunekar and CA U. N. Bene for their achievements and Laurels. He heartily congratulated the College for entering its Golden Jubilee year.  Along with praising the efforts of the faculty members, non-teaching staff and students, he also appreciated and motivated the students with his kind words and uplifted the spirit of the audience with his humor and wit. Mr. D’Souza then spoke about GIPARD and how it helped 36,000 women to earn their livelihood through 2500 Self Help groups during COVID-19 pandemic.

For the Prize Distribution Ceremony certificates and trophies were distributed to students for their achievements in academics, sports, NCC, NSS, and other cultural activities during the academic year 2021-22. Special Prize were given at the hands of the dignitaries. Mr. Prem Kumar was awarded as the Damodar Ratna, whereas Ms. Roshni Khatun was honoured as the Most Outstanding Student and Ms. Elaine Corriea was accoladed as the Most Outstanding Lady Student.

The Programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Vice Principal Dr. Rodney D’Silva, followed by the National Anthem.
