Shelter Level Training under Component C of NCRMP-II (for CSMMC Members, Disaster Management Team & Community Volunteers)

Goa Institute of Public Administration & Rural Development, Ella Farm Old Goa, in Collaboration with Revenue Department and Water Resource Department Government of Goa organized three days “Shelter Level Training under Component C of NCRMP-II (for CSMMC Members, Disaster Management Team & Community Volunteers)” from 23rd May to 25th May 2022.The session was from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m in VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics. The participants were NSS students and NCC (Army & Navy) wing cadets of the College.

The topic of the training was“Shelter Level Training under Component C of NCRMP-II (for CSMMC Members, Disaster Management Team & Community Volunteers)”. The main objective of the session was to inform the participants about the various safety measures and how to deal with casualties in the time of emergency.  At the outset, Ms. Arlette Mascarenhas Course Director of GIPARD welcomed the participants and briefed about the three days training.  The participants were divided in two groups.17students NSS Students, 13NCC (Army), and 8 NCC(Navy)-8 cadets along with  CSMMC-2 members attended the sessions.

Day one: 23rd May 2022

The Resource Person for first session was Sr. Remy Lacerda, ex faculty of Nursing Institute Bambolim. she provided an elaborate explanation of the following topics:

  1. The role and responsibility of CSMMC Members and
  2. Practical aspects of Disaster Management Triage.

The Resource Person for the second session was Dr. Jonson Fernandes, ENT Surgeon and Certified Trainer. He gave brief introduction on Basic Life Support Program. He  provided an elaborate explanation of the following topics:

  1. Practical Aspects of Disaster Management Triage
  2. First Aid, Bandaging, Carriage of Causalities
  3. Development of village Disaster Management Plan
  4. Live demo on carriage of Causalities
  5. Vulnerability of Goa to various Disasters

Day two: 24th May 2022

For the first session Sr. Remy Lacerda covered various aspects of first aid, bandaging, carriage of causalities etc. In the second session Mr. Vithoba Mhalkar, Assistant Professor in Psychiatric Nursing at IPHB Bambolim spoke about mental health and referral psycho-social counselling during disaster and the various effects of disaster on Women and children and also its prevention.

The third session was by Shri Damodar Zambaulikar, Station Fire Officer Department of Fire and Emergency Services. He explained the basics of CPR(Cadiopulmonary Resuscitation) and how to give first aid to a person. For the fourth  Session the Resource Person was Shri. Ravi Naik, Station Fire Officer Department of Fire and Emergency Services. He gave live demonstration on how to use fire extinguishers, also explained which fire extinguisher to use for different types of fire.

Day three: 25th May 2022

The Resource Person for the first session was Dr. Pranoy Baidya, consultant for CRZ Goa. He spoke on hazard Risk Vulnerability Capacity (HRVC) Analysis, Rapid Qualitative Assessment and importance of food chains.For the second session Dr. Ramesh Kumar chief Scientist(Rtd) at  NIO spoke about the Climate change and the impact on the on the community, early warning and communication. The session was made interesting by giving his personal experiences at Antarctica.

The Speaker for the last session was Dr. Jose Noronha, Faculty at SEA SCAN Academy. He spoke on handling risk of communicable diseases and precautions for COVID-19.

The participants appreciated the efforts of the Resource Person as they benefited immensely from the sessions. Overall, the sessions were very interesting and interactive. The participants were enthusiastic throughout the session,

The participants were also asked to fill the feedback form. Prof and Pricipal Dr. Prita D Mallyadistributed   certificates, group photo and a pendrive to all the participants. The training program was attended by 40 participants.

The session was coordinated by Ms. Sharmila Kunde, NSS PO, Ms. Pretty Louiza Pereira ANO NCC Navy, Lt. Sandesh Gaonkar .
