The Career Cell organized a ‘Career Guidance Session’ for the FY B.Com and FY BBA students of the College on 20th December 2021 at 12.15 pm. The session was conducted in the Smart Classroom. The Convener of the Career Cell, Assistant Professor Sheryl Sanches introduced the Resource Persons Mr. Azaan Sheikh, HR Executive, Ms. Mishkova Mendes, Career Counselor and Ms. Alfiya Baig, Assistant Career Counselor from Confederation of Indian Industry -Model Career Centre (CII-MCC) and gave a brief introduction of CII. 51 students attended the session.
Ms. Mendes begun the session by making the students aware about the importance of career planning, the steps involved in career planning and the job opportunities open to the students after the completion of their courses. She also highlighted the difference between a job and a career and asked the students to choose their careers wisely. The speaker emphasized the importance of having a growth mindset over a fixed mindset.
Later, Ms. Baig highlighted the steps in choosing an appropriate career. She also pointed out various soft skills and hard skills required for different jobs and how to acquire it. She then guided the students to take a Baro Career Interest Test based on six characteristics- Conventional, Social, Entrepreneurial, Artistic, Realistic and Investigative. The Baro test is a test that helps one to understand their strengths and weaknesses and thus helps the students to realize their areas of interest and growth potential. She explained the interpretation of the report generated on the completion of the test.
The session was well appreciated by the students. Assistant Professor Trisha Vadil, member of the Career Cell, proposed the Vote of Thanks.
