Celebration of Matrubasha Diwas

The NDLI Club, Ek Bharat Shrestra Bharat Club and Readers’ Club celebrated Matrubhasha Diwas on February 24th 2021  from 12.00 noon – 1.30 pm via the Google Meet platform.

The celebration commenced with the welcome address delivered by the Vice-Principal, Dr. Rodney D’Silva. Ms. Mruga Naik, member of Readers’ Club, spoke briefly about the importance of the day. Ms. Tanaiya Raikar, student of FYBBA(FS)  introduced the Chief Guest, Mrs. Nutan Sakhardande.

Mrs. Sakhardande highlighted the significance of International Mother Language Day which is observed worldwide on 21st  February to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote multilingualism. She also expressed that languages are the most powerful instruments of preserving and developing our tangible and intangible heritage.

Two videos  namely-‘GRANTHGANGA- A Virtual Exhibition of Konkani books’ and ‘A short film on the life of  Bakibab Borkar’, created by NDLI Club, EK Bharat Shrestha Bharat Club and Readers’ Club members were launched by the Chief Guest. An e-Quiz on Konkani was announced by the Chief Guest. The event culminated with ‘Poets Meet @ Damodar’. 16 renowned as well as budding poets from all walks of life and all parts of Goa recited their poems online in three languages viz. Konkani, Marathi, and Hindi. 34 participants participated virtually in the celebration.

Students Ms. Prachi Naik and Ms. Dnyanada Prabhudessai compered the program. Vice-Principal, Dr. Rodney D’silva proposed the Vote of Thanks.

The program ended at 1.30 pm.
