Webinar on “GAFA Digital Economy and the Challenges Ahead”

The BBA(Financial Services) Department organised a Webinar in collaboration with the Goa Management Association on “GAFA Digital Economy and the Challenges Ahead” on 23rd November,2020 from 04:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The resource persons for the webinar were Mr. Virendra Acharya, Treasury Hea1d, VIMSON Shivanand Salgaocar Group and CA Rohan Bhandare, R.S. Bhandare & Associates. The Webinar was conducted virtually through Google Meet Platform and 68 participants attended.

The Webinar commenced after the welcome address and brief overview by Principal Prof. Prita D. Mallya. The Webinar was conducted in two sessions. In the first session, Mr. Virendra Acharya elaborated upon GAFA. He said the Big 4 tech giants – Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon, have changed the way the world is now doing business. The GAFA economy offers innumerable digital opportunities for small and big businesses. He explained how GAFA, and now BATX (Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent and Xiaomi from China) function – they are global, recognizing no geographical boundaries and have a presence in every sector. Mr. Acharya also pointed out the challenges posed by the new digital revolution – regulation being the most important of them all.

The second session was conducted by CA Rohan Bhandare, who focussed upon digital economy developments in India. He commenced the session with the recent digital developments in Indian economy by highlighting the promising digital economy players. CA Rohan explained the concepts of Digital Growth, Digital Development and Digital Sustainability with special reference to Reliance Jio. He highlighted that the Government of India is playing the role of an inclusive innovator in the process of a nation-wide digital revolution, by implementing UPI, AI Strategy, Arogya Setu, etc.

The Webinar was very interactive, there being several questions put forth by the participants during the Question and Answer Session. The speakers addressed all the questions raised of the participants. Asst. Prof. Ms. Ashwini Devari coordinated and compered the Webinar while Asst. Prof. Ms. Grishmi Thakur introduced both the speakers. Asst. Prof. Mayuresh Adsul proposed the vote of thanks. The participants appreciated the Department and the College for conducting activities that draw attention and create awareness about unexplored academic and business domains.
