First Year BCA &B.Voc.(ST) Students’ Orientation

The Department of Computer Science organised an orientation program for FY BCA and B.Voc.(ST) students on 1st September, 2020 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on the Google Meet platform. 88 FY BCA and 25 FY B.Voc.(ST) students attended the orientation program.

The session began with the welcome address by the Principal Dr. Prita D. Mallya. In her opening remark she spoke as to how IT has rescued us in these times of pandemic. She said that since IT is the need of the present and the future, students of BCA and B.Voc.(Software Technologies) have taken a wise decision by joining these programs.  She also said that one should always give utmost importance to self-discipline, knowledge, active learning, ethics, conduct, character and punctuality.

Vice-Principal Dr. Rodney D’Silva in his address welcomed the students and advised them to be responsive and proactive in this new age of learning.

Mr. Sumit Kumar, Head of the Department welcomed and briefed the students about the Department, and the programs it offers. He gave a brief insight into the program structure, curriculum and its conduct.  This was followed by the introduction of the faculty members. Ms. Namita Neurenkar highlighted the importance of attendance, online guidelines, and discipline. She also informed the students about various add-on certificate courses, workshops conducted by the Department, with an aim to impart skills in the latest technology.

Mr. Bhiku Bhave informed the students about the various components of examinations and grading pattern of BCA and B.Voc.(Software Technologies) program. Ms. Akshada Hegde highlighted the important skills that are nurtured by the Department by exposing them to the industry work culture through study tours, field trips, internships and live projects.

Ms Sweta Verenkar briefed the students about “TechTrendz”, (the department’s Technology Club) which is a hub of all Technology based activities. She also spoke about the extension activity conducted through eMadhyam. Ms. Megha Vasudevan informed the students about the mentoring activities conducted by the College, and outlined the role of mentors and mentees.
